Goat Herder for Fire Mitigation (Southern California Cities)

compensation: Pay based on experience.

The job brings you to different cities throughout Southern California; San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles, Malibu and surrounding cities. This job uses goats to create fire breaks along with traditional manual and mechanical methods. The job focuses on caring for the herd and land preservation. We work adjacent to attractive communities, work for utility companies, along roadways, city parks and state parks.

Duties include lifting, climbing and strenuous physical activity, monitoring and maintaining the worksite, cutting brush line, removing brush piles, trimming understory, installing low voltage electric fencing and caring for the goat herd under the California Agricultural Labor Code and California Civil Code.

Job Requirements:
Staying onsite monitoring the herd.
Ability to safely handle hand-held tools and power equipment.
Ability to lift and perform strenuous physical activity.
Ability to take direction and maintain a good working relationship in a team atmosphere.
Must have a strong work ethic, good communication skills and calm demeanor.
Be mindful, constructive and conduct yourself in a safe working manner.
No alcohol or drugs allowed on the job. Notice: Random drug test will be given.
Possession of a valid Driver’s License and/or documents legally authorizing you to work in the United States.

Preferred Skills:
Previous ranch experience, Landscape background, tree trimming experience, animal care experience.

Benefits:
Full time work
Five weeks on – two weeks off
Bi-weekly pay period.
Employer will furnish, all tools, supplies and personal protective equipment.
Employer provided meal allowance and facility lodging.
